The Social Skills Ceremony, which is the culmination and highlight of the Mentor/Mentee program, took place this past Friday morning. The ceremony was so moving –it showed how important it is that every student at AH is made to feel welcome and accepted. I’d like to thank Michelle Greene, Tricia Dunleavy, Melissa Schur, Joe Ginnane, and all the TAs and monitors for all their hard work to help make the Social Skills program so much a part of their students’ education. Many thanks to LeighAnn DiPasquale for the incredible job she does on a daily basis, making sure lunch and recess is a happy time for all students and of course for the lovely pictures she takes for the slide show. I’d especially like to thank Sue Levine for spearheading the entire program and working with all 200 students throughout the year, not to mention being in charge of the wonderful ceremony that highlighted all the students who participated. When I looked at the students making speeches, listened to the parent speech, and saw all the mentors and mentees receiving their certificates, it reminded me why this school is such an incredibly special place………. |

If you were at the concert, you were “wowed” by the orchestra, band, and chorus. I was so proud of their performance and I know the parents were just in awe of the talent on stage. Kudos to Katherine Ness, Suzanne Greene and Katrina Lester for all their hard work and creativity. It was so heartwarming to see all children participating in the performing arts at the Anne Hutch concert. |

Congratulations to our Art Teacher, Mrs. Gina Zohar for a wonderful presentation at the annual Arts Festival. I am very proud of our students and the work they had displayed as were their parents. When visiting Anne Hutchinson you will also notice our main office as well as display cases that Mrs. Zohar shows off all the children’s works. We are so grateful that the Eastchester School District showcases the fine and performing arts so that all children have a place where they can display their talents and shine! |

Congratulations to the students and parents, along with Shane O’Connor and Amanda Lyons, and our Physical Ed teachers, for raising over $3,000 in the Jump Rope for Heart event at our school. The dollars raised support the mission of the American Heart Association: Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. |

NYS Green Ribbon Award-5th Place We recently received notification from NYS that we placed 5th out of 26 schools that applied for the NYS Green Ribbon Award. Unfortunately, only the top 3 schools are selected for the next step in the selection process. However, despite not making it to the next level, the great news is that our school had the highest score in Pillar 2 compared to the 26 other schools. Pillar 2 involves having a positive impact on the health and performance of students and staff. We will receive a certificate of recognition for that accomplishment, and that is certainly something to celebrate! I’d like to thank John Condon and Jay Tomczak for all their support in maintaining our school in a “Green” fashion, but especially Dave O’Neil and all the students for their recycling efforts in our cafeteria each day. As you know, Mr. O’Neil and his students have been training the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and other 5th graders to recycle and compost their garbage. I’d especially like to thank Vidya Bhat for being the forerunner in applying for this award. This was really a team effort and I applaud everyone for their assistance…it truly paid off. Our school is continually improving, not only academically, but is also becoming more sustainable and environmentally responsible.
